Where is Daufuskie?

Daufuskie is located in the southeast corner of South Carolina with Hilton Head Island just one nautical mile to our northeast and Savannah just 16 miles to our southwest.

How Do We Get There?

A true sea island, Daufuskie is accessible by private ferry and personal helicopter.  Ferries currently originate from Hilton Head Island and Savannah, GA.  Schedules will vary with the change of season.
How Do We Get Around?

The pace is a little slower on Daufuskie, so bicycles, cottage carts and plain old walking seem to get us where we need to be when we need to get there.  And for those times when we need a lift, the resort's shuttle buses are just the ticket.

What About Recreation?

You are in for a treat!  From kayaking to nature walks (remember the eagles?), to world class golf and championship tennis.  From shell hunting and observing loggerhead turtles to horseback riding and your daily workout, Daufuskie offers a smorgas board of opportunities.  The big question is often "What should I do first?", which may require a little thought and a nap in a beach-side hammock.
Is There Shopping on the Island?

Shopping is limited with clothing and other "soft" goods available in the pro shops at Melrose and Bloody Point.  There is a general store in Melrose that stocks a nice variety of consumable items and can also arrange for your entire grocery list to be in your cottage upon your arrival.

What about Restaurants?

Marshside Mama's is a bit like Key West in the 70's with an eclectic atmosphere that welcomes locals and first-time visitors alike.  Enjoy appetizers, wonderful fish dishes and low country favorites like Shrimp & Grits!  The Daufuskie Island Resort and Breathe Spa offers casual dining at its Beach Club and Jack's Grill outlets and a more formal experience at the Stoddard Room inside the Melrose Inn.  Freeport Marina offers a casual dining experience that should not be missed.
